Common Questions

Are ceramic table lamps fragile?
Less than you would expect. Our ceramic lamps are stoneware — a high-fired clay body that is dense, chip-resistant and far stronger than earthenware or porcelain. They will survive normal domestic life. They will not survive being dropped on a hard floor.
Are they dimmer-compatible?
The lamp itself is compatible with any standard UK dimmer. Whether dimming works depends on the bulb you use. Choose a bulb labelled "dimmable LED" — many cheap LEDs are not dimmable and will flicker or buzz on a dimmer circuit.
What bulbs do ceramic table lamps take?
Standard E27 (large screw) unless stated otherwise on the product page. We recommend 4-8W warm-white LED for atmosphere, or 8-10W if you need the lamp as a primary reading light.
How are the ceramic surfaces finished?
Most are finished in a matte glaze — not glossy. Matte glazes hide minor dust and fingerprints, sit calmer against natural light, and feel warmer to the touch. A few of our pieces are unglazed stoneware, which develops a soft hand-rubbed patina over years.
Will the glaze scratch?
Stoneware glaze is roughly as hard as glass. It will not scratch from normal use — placing a remote control next to it, wiping with a cloth, dusting. It can chip on a hard impact like dropping a heavy object onto it.

The craft

Each ceramic lamp base is shaped on a wheel or hand-built, then bisque-fired before its glaze is applied. The matte glazes we choose — chalky cream, soft sand, deep clay, faded forest — develop a subtle patina with age and gentle handling. They're never glossy or industrial.

Pairing the shade

Linen and parchment shades give the warmest, most diffuse light. Pleated shades add texture and a quiet retro reference (think 1970s Danish interiors). For a more sculptural look, choose an open frame or a paper drum.

Where to use

Ceramic table lamps are gentler than stone — easier to move, easier to pair, easier to layer. Use them on bedside tables, side tables, sideboards and writing desks. We recommend a warm 2700K LED bulb (6–9W) and dimmable where possible.
